Delray Beach was awarded the "All American City Award" in 1993 as one of the best cities to live in. The rich patina of 100 years, historic preservation and focus on pedestrian comfort have made it a magnet for vacationers. Many decide to purchase homes in this bustling city. It has become known for its unique architecture and thriving downtown.

Atlantic Avenue has many scenic vistas, paver brick sidewalks, decorative lighting and miles of shops to browse and buy in. Visit the Cornell Museum of Art & History which features regional, national and international exhibitions.

On Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm, browse the Delray Beach Green Market in The Park in downtown Delray Beach's Worthington Park at S.E. 2nd Avenue, and head home
with many delicacies.

Delray Beach has become a winter resort where artists, writers and cartoonists come to escape winter blues and call Delray home.

Performances are given frequently at the Delray Beach Playhouse which is on the shores of pretty Lake Ida. Check out offerings at the Caldwell Theatre and the Crest Theatre. The lake is ringed with lovely homes. Lake Ida Park offers boat ramps, day-use boat slips, play and picnic areas, freshwater fishing, water skiing and a bicycle path.

Of special interest to tennis fans is the Delray Beach Tennis Center located near the downtown area. West Delray is the location of the Morikami Museum-the only museum in the United States devoted to Japanese culture. It was founded by George Morikami, a pineapple farmer and last surviving member, at the turn of the 20th century, of the original Yamato Colony from Japan. A must-see at Morimaki is the International Orchid Center, a 3 1/2 acre botanical garden with two 4,000-square-foot greenhouses.

Boardwalks, parks, softball fields, brick lined walkways, gazebo, picnic area, play areas and 12 acres of florida scrub with a nature trail are located alongside the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Walk the hiking trails, take the kids to the playgrounds, watch a Little League game, and you will blend right in and become a part of this All American City.
